We were very lucky to be invited to run a workshop with Leeds based Special Needs charity YAMSEN (Yorkshire Arts Music Special Education Needs) in West Park. Sharing our passion for music with people with Special Needs has been a goal of ours since starting Resonate, and we couldn’t have had a better first group.
Working with such a large group of people (around 100) was always going to be a challenge, but the YAMSEN participants welcomed us with open arms and were extremely engaged in what we had to deliver.
Our ‘Around the World’ theme involved playing pass-the-parcel with our inflatable globe, picking a country when the music stopped, and playing the music from that country on our instruments. A particular highlight for us was the Indian music section, where one of the members, Anthony, got up and performed a fantastic dance for us while we all played, receiving a huge round of applause!
We’ll be back to work with YAMSEN again in February, and can’t wait to see how they get on with our next workshop.
